A lot of people use a neoprene pad as the first one and then put whatever they want over it. I have a Big Horn wool pad that is great, and i keep a navajo pad underneath it. Pro Choice makes some nice barrel racing pads too.

Horse Boots: I swear by Pro Choice SMBs. They hold up great, look good, easy to put on, have the best support, and absord 48% of the shock from the leg. I’ve tried other brands, like Legacy, but i definitely like Pro Choice the best. The Legacy boots wore out quick and the velco stopped sticking really fast, even though i kept them clean. Pro Choice all the way.

Bit: Anything that your horse responds well in. I use a Wonder bit, and my horse works fantastically in that. But really, anything that the horse works well in will work.

Cinch: I prefer neoprene over mohair any day. Mohair gets dirty and is hard to clean. Neoprene cinches can be hosed off and look brand new, they also keep the horse cooler and won’t stretch like mohair.

Reins: Round reins are a must. I don’t like barrel racing in leather reins, it just feels awkward. Cotton is always a good choice, and have worked well for me.
