Corpus Christi Young Marines

The Devil's Panties - 08/11/2011

While frolicking in the sand and surf we were unwittingly treated to an air show courtesy of Operation Mailed Fist .

There was some debate as to whether they had meant a manila envelope containing a visceral right hook, or some gnarly set of medieval brass knuckles.

This was a debate in which neither side could lose.

During the exercise various parts of the east coast were treated to displays of military might. The Marines in our neck of the woods seemed to be focused on dusting off the entire fleet of Harriers one jet at a time.

They were in fact flying lower and slower each pass. This stirred up various theories.

Heh. I can vouch for this. Some35 or so years ago, I was a Midshipman at Corpus Christi taking flight training in a T-34 trainer (a single-prop two-seat military aircraft.) The pilot had me doing simple aerobatics (wingovers, Immelmans, etc.) at about 8,000 feet, when he suddenly said “I have the stick!”. I immediately released the stick and kept my feet off the pedals, as he pulled a wingover and went into a steep dive. When we got low–very, very low–I realized he was coming out of the sun on a young woman who’d decided a secluded part of the beach was the right place to get a full tan, *all* over.

Danged sharp eyesight, from 8,000 feet, to realize what a target was below…

Just got into Indianapolis. I collected my badge from an unconscious Rob Balder from ErfWorld (he’ll be at our table. He’s been up for 28 hours and is FUN to poke at with a very long loopy stick)

I dumped my stuff at our table. We’re listed as “RPG Webcomics” and they’ve got us at the end of isle 1200. Facing the wall. Like the bad bad children that we are. We are kinda next to WizKids (I think?) which is cool.  At least, I could see their banner when I was hauling my boxes in the back door.

Now I shall go scour the streets of Indianapolis for munchies and crunchies… at least I will once the Canadians get here. Rooming with Alina from Weregeeks . Gonna be loopy time! She and I stayed with Little Vampires in California for Comic Con and it was full of awesome.
