Finweek is on the block
In the meantime the contents and reporting style of Finweek will change. The magazine is being respositioned to appeal to the younger executive.
Ashton comments that currently 60% of Finweek 's readership is black and that many of them are middle class executives operating in the aspirational sector of business.
Will the strategy work? Only time will tell.
The problem with appealing to the young executive brigade is that their lifestyle habits are strongly linked to the internet. Therefore they are more comfortable with online sourcing via the desktop and the mobile.
Currently advertising in the English and Afrikaans version of Finweek is sold as a package. If the English version fails to turn a profit, what happens to the Afrikaans verson?
In the meantime Financial Mail is boosting its editorial lineup while Finweek is pulling the rug on its staff compliment.
According to the Janaury/March ABCs the combined English/Afrikaans edition of Finweek is 26 729, and that of FM 's 26 572.
