Events in the hip-hop feel smaller than before. This is the age of the regional hit, the viral video with no budget, star Twitter. Hip-hop, so long the most dynamic force in pop music, you could always count on him for big spending, a boon for producers, directors, fashion designers, car dealers and so on, to to mention the marketers, brands and synergists secondary industries, it fed. But in recent years, the center was weakened, and gender is adjusting to life built from the bottom. Jay-Z and Kanye West are-the-top-down guy, though: the old oligarchy, the last of a dying race.There are more young stars who have their kind of domination on their mind - Lil Wayne and Drake mainly - but the landscape they have to go does not support the long reign of old, especially when the authorities refuse to give anchored terrain. Yet by all measures, 2011 is probably the worst time for Jay-Z and West to release their first album together, Watching Throne (Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam / Roc Nation). It's an album that announces its importance well before it appears, a team of Titans not given to share the spotlight.By far, this is a final burst of pride of hip-hop, the panting of the 1990s the late '00s to mid enormous stress on a howitzer at the gate. But up close, from the Throne shows that none of these things. He left for the idiosyncratic epic, it tempers its emphasis with both thinking and inventiveness. This is not the case it could have been Brobdingnagian and is better for it. Withholding is not quite the word, a complete recording complex and non-shy. Instead, what is on the screen, curiosity and risk.Curiosity and risk are often by-products of privilege, of course, and many aesthetic choices on the throne View derive directly from the state of its creation. The songs were developed in three rounds over several months and continents, creating a range of moods and tones. Overall this is not entirely legible, there are too many ideas, as if Jay-Z and West (presented as the throne for this project) were interviewed several new styles, but I forgot to choose one. But beware the Throne is a phenomenal album with many moments, even if it is not quite add up to a phenomenal album.
