Lebanon Borough announces July 4th parade winners
LEBANON — A number of awards and honors were given out at the annual Fourth of July Parade by the borough’s Fourth of July Celebration Committee.
Parade trophies went to: Most original float or unit — 15th NJ Volunteers; Best all around float or unit — Somerset County Horse and Pony Association; Best children’s float or unit — Cub Scout Pack 901; Best theme float or unit — Hunterdon County 4-H; Most patriotic float or unit — Captain America; Best non-paid unit with music — St. Anne Bagpipes; Best youth marching group — Boy Scout Troop 288.
Borough house decorating awards: 1st Place — 51 Main Street; 2nd Place — 2 Locust Drive.
Prizes in the antique car show went to: Don Vroom of Glen Gardner for his 1923 Ford Touring Model T in the pre-1928; Helen Resenberger of Glen Gardner for her Model “A” Ford 4 Door Deluxe in the 1928-1945 category; Jess Vreeland of Glen Gardner for his 1946 Ford Tudor Sedan in the 1946-1954 category; Ralph Demech of Lebanon for his 1959 Chevy Corvette in the 1955-1959 category; Charlie Busher of Whitehouse Station for his 1967 Chevy Camaro in the 1960-1969 category; Wayne Richards of Phillipsburg for his 1973 Ford Mustang Mach I in the 1970-and up category; Gene Taylor of Flemington for his 1942 Mercury “Woody” in the Special Class category; Mike Tuzzolino of Lebanon for his 1924 Model “T” Ford in the Special Class category; Bob Schomp of Lebanon for his 1965 Chevrolet C-10 Pickup in the Special Class category; Darren Wilton of Lebanon for his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro in the Special Class category; Bill Decoster of Lebanon for his 1930 Model “A” Ford in the Special Class category; Paul and John Fennimore of Pittstown for his 1938 Chevrolet 3/4 ton Pickup in the truck category; John McPherson of Flemington for his 1948 International Farmall “M” in the Farm Equipment category; and Art Stober of Glen Gardner for his 1967 Pontiac GTO for the Best of Show category.
Sack race winners in the 4- and 5-year-old category were Ivy Murphy of Oldwick, James Aquino of Raritan Township and Sarah Begosh of Lebanon Township; in the 6- and 7-year-old category, Melissa Buerk of Phillipsburg, Teagan Harvey of Jamison, Pa. and Max Delia of Clinton Township; in the 8-10 category, Drew Barnett of Dunellen, Karilyn Kruklitis of Allentown, Pa., Sydney Smit of Lebanon; in the 11-13 category, James Kurklitos of Pennsylvania, Michelle Coyle of Berkley Heights and Rebecca Fontana of Lebanon; in the 14-18 category, Kryss Cook of Bridgewater, Eddie McQuad of Long Beach, N.Y. and Jillian Cook of Bridgewater; 19 and up, Rob Kruklitis of Allentown, Pa., Jim Lance of Lebanon and Kevin Harvey of Lebanon; in the women only category, 20-39, no entrants; men 20-39, no entrants; and over 40, Kevin Harvey of Lebanon, Todd Murphy of Annandale and Tim Harvey of Jamison, Pa.

URSINA, Pa. -- State police say they're investigating the "suspicious" death of a 17-month-old child in a Somerset County borough. Troopers from the Somerset barracks aren't identifying the child who died at the home in Ursina.

The Pennsylvania State University, University Park Campus, played host to 4-H members from across Pennsylvania for the annual 67th 4-H State Achievement Days from July 26-28. Thirty-four Somerset County 4-H'ers participated in this event.

PA News: Somerset County Man Trapped between Moving Train ...
55-Year-old James R. Livengood, of Meyersdale, Somerset County, was killed early Sunday morning when he got trapped between moving train cars. After leaving a bar, he was walking alone on Main Street about 1:30 a.m. when he came upon a stationary train. As Mr. Livengood attempted to cross the train tracks between two rail cars, the train began to move. It is believed that he lost his balance and became trapped underneath. The cause of death was ruled multiple blunt force trauma.
Erie Boy in Custody after Gunfire on City’s West Side A 16-year-old Erie boy was arrested early Sunday morning after witnesses said he fired six or more gunshots toward a crowd at West 17th and Walnut streets in Erie. Identity Thieves Hit 29 City of Pittsburgh Employees The man accused of fatally stabbing a Drexel University senior may have acted in self-defense and may not face charges. 22-year-old Evan Morris was killed early Friday morning in the city’s Powelton Village neighborhood, just off Drexel’s campus. It appears that the man who stabbed Mr. Morris was acting in self-defense. The two argued, and hours later, Mr. Morris went back to the man’s apartment and kicked in a door, they then fought over a knife inside the apartment, and Mr. Morris was stabbed.
