Conroe Symphony Orchestra celebrates music with 5 concerts

The season begins Oct. 3 with “An Opening Night Celebration,” its first concert, underscoring this season’s theme, “A Celebration of Music.”

Second up is “Celebrating the Holidays,” on Dec. 5; followed by a Valentine nod, “The Romance of the Symphony” Feb. 13.

CSO’s “Celebrating Spring” is April 16. The traditional Patriotic Celebration is June 25.

All concerts fall on Monday evenings at 7:30 and are in the Ark Church, off Interstate 45 at the Gladsell Exit.

Tickets that include all five performances cost $60 each, and every one comes with two complimentary tickets good for any concert of purchaser's choice to give way. The extensive church auditorium contains almost limitless seating so space is not a problem.

League membership is an excellent way to support the volunteer orchestra, and costs $25-$100-$500, depending on level of support, whether active, patron, or lifetime association.

In addition to supporting the musicians and Maestro DR. DON HUTSON, League members are invited to some delightful events where the best of music and food are provided to all members in the spacious Symphony Centre at 1500 N. Frazier in Conroe. These events typically involve ensemble music performances, enlightening talks, pizza, or scrumptious homemade foods from CSO League board members.

The performers are volunteers, although most actually are employed as professional musicians in their day jobs. Contributions are solicited and may be included with ticket purchase. Funds are used for music library, youth orchestra support, education, outreach and myriad other needs. The Conroe Commission on Arts and Culture grants some financial support to CSO, as well as do some other groups.

Stop by the center any Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Staffer NANCY JOHNSON requests that visitors use the north entrance closest to the Chocolate Passion eatery. CSO is a nonprofit organization so contributions are tax deductible, using credit cards, checks or cash. The CRIGHTON PLAYERS introduce an innovation tonight when they open “The Sound of Music” at downtown Conroe’s Owen Theatre. If all goes as expected, audience members may not even be aware that anything’s different.
