Mr Phallop is an owner and managing director of Avis Rent A Car Thailand, the local franchisee for US-based Avis.
The car rental company has many branches nationwide and plans to set up more in neighbouring countries.
Mr Phallop has delegated some of his responsibilities in running the company to his three sons.
"I just watch from a distance so I have more time for religious work," he said.
Mr Phallop is secretary-general of the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB). Its headquarters are based in Bangkok.
The WFB is an international Buddhist organisation founded in 1950 in Colombo, Sri Lanka by Buddhists from 27 nations.
MC Poonpismai Diskul was elected the first Thai president of the WFB 1969.
In 1984, former prime minister Sanya Dharmasak was elected as the WFB president succeeding MC Poonpismai.
Phan Wannamethee, the Thai Red Cross Society's secretary-general, is the WFB's president.
On the occasion of His Majesty the King's 80th birthday, as the WFB secretary-general, Mr Phallop travelled to member nations of the WFB to present Buddha images to temples in countries including Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Malaysia and Australia.
He also plays a key role in maintaining relations with other Buddhist countries as well as providing humanitarian assistance from the WFB humanitarian relief fund to disaster victims in various parts of the world.
He is involved in publishing handbooks introducing meditation retreats in Thailand to foreigners and in raising funds to support scholarships for monks from other countries to study Buddhism in Thailand.
Mr Phallop wants to push Thailand as one of the world's Buddhist centres.
Born on July 12, 1950, Mr Phallop was brought up in a Bangkok community with cultural, religious and racial diversity.
These formative years of a child's life have set the stage for his adulthood, with his grandmother and other elderly people in the neighbourhood playing a crucial role.
His student years at Vajiravudh College in Bangkok further strengthened his faith.
"Every morning and before bedtime, students would chant prayers for 45 minutes. On Sundays, monks would be invited to give a sermon," Mr Phallop recalled.
As a student, he was involved in many Buddhist activities. He became president of the Buddhist and culture study club at Thammasat University.
While he studied law at Thammasat University, he also took a course on comparative religion.
