Dougherty Gang: 'We weren't trying to hurt anyone'
PUEBLO - The "Dougherty Gang," - three fugitive siblings who made the national Most Wanted List and have been on the run from the law - were arrested in Colorado following a high-speed chase and a shootout on Wednesday.
Thursday morning, the oldest member of the so-called "Dougherty Gang" initially told federal investigators that she and her brothers "weren't trying to hurt anyone" during a wild chase and shootout.
On Thursday, it was announced that all three siblings will face numerous state charges, including charges of attempted murder of a police officer. All three waived their initial appearances via closed-circuit video on Thursday morning inside a Pueblo County courtroom.
The Pueblo County Jail Captain David Lucero talked to 9NEWS Thursday afternoon regarding the trio's behavior in court.
"We haven't had any issues [with them,]" Lucero said. "I think it's kind of surreal for them when that door shuts behind them. They've been very compliant with any requests we've had."
All three are on maximum-security level one inside the jail - meaning they have four hours a day maximum of time outside of their cell.
Described by the FBI as the "baddest of the bad," the three siblings, 21-year-old Ryan Edward Dougherty, 26-year-old Dylan Dougherty Stanley and 29-year-old Lee Grace Dougherty, were taken into custody after a high-speed chase that ended in a crash Wednesday near Walsenburg.
All three Doughertys also face additional state charges out of Florida and Georgia, as well as federal charges for their alleged roles in a crime spree that caused law enforcement officers across the country to be on alert.
"[I have] no idea what started them down the path that brought them to [Wednesday], but we're sure happy that part of it's over. A lot of it revolves around people willing to pick up the phone and calling law enforcement," Niedringhaus said.
9NEWS talked to FBI agent Phil Niedringhaus about how the citizens, media and law enforcement came together to apprehend these fugitives.
"Really, the key in this case was the work of the media and the citizens of Colorado in providing the information that led to these people being arrested," Niedringhaus said.
Canon City Mayor Tony Greer says Dylan Dougherty tried to buy ammunition for an AK-47 at the local Walmart on Tuesday afternoon. The clerk told him he couldn't buy the ammunition that day at Walmart but could get it at another store in town. On Wednesday morning, Greer says the employee recognized Dylan Dougherty on a news report and called authorities.

PI Newswire :: Process Server Arrested For Trespassing
Patricia Ann Sharon told Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies she was trying to do her job. The deputies say she was trespassing.
Sharon, 50, was arrested June 4 following an incident at a home on Ringling Street in the New Port Richey area.
According to a Pasco County complaint affidavit, deputies received a call about a suspicious person. The caller told deputies there was a woman on her back porch who claimed to be a process server. The woman, the caller said, wouldn’t leave.
When a deputy arrived at the home, he questioned Sharon, who was sitting in a chair on the back porch. She told the deputy she was “working for the clerk of the court,” the affidavit said. The deputy tried to clarify if Sharon actually worked for the Pasco County Clerk of the Court’s office. Sharon “eventually admitted that she was not employed by the clerk and was serving process on behalf of a private client.”
At this point, the woman who called in the original complaint asked Sharon again to leave. When she refused, the deputy told her she was trespassing and needed to leave, the affidavit said.
Sharon, of 3631 Player Drive in the New Port Richey area, again refused to leave, the affidavit said. She was arested and charged with trespass after warning. She was released the same day.

Yes, the process server was trespassing. She was not trespassing for going onto the property, but, rather, for staying after she was asked to leave. I don’t know why the server was on the back porch, unless it was a duplex with the units divided front to back, or it was a corner house wherein the front door was ambiguous. Anyhow, you may go to the door to serve papers, sell subscriptions, ask for directions, or do surveys. However, if an occupant asks you to leave, then do so immediately. To not do so is to trespass. You have to have a good reason to be going around to the back, looking in windows, etc. Once I was on a case for an insurance company to verify whether a recipient of insurance payments was still alive. He was elderly and I had seen him previously at a certain house. Now, he was not available by phone; I kept getting a busy signal. I drove down there and got no answer at the door. He lived alone, and I feared he might have died. I went around the house, looking in all the windows. I went next door and found a man sitting in a car in the driveway–a police officer in an unmarked car. He just happened to be there. I explained my actions, just in case he was curious. He said that he thought a young man and his daughter lived there. Well, they soon drove up and verified that they’d lived there a short while. The cop never seemed to doubt my explanation. Anyhow, I now had a missing-persons case, but that’s another story. Anyhow, PIs and process servers should not act as though they’re something special. We’re just like everyone else; we have a job to do, and we need to do it legally and respectfully.
