Vacuum bandit gets 15 days for laundry room theft
A 41-year-old who used a vacuum to suck quarters from coin-operated washers and dryers went to jail for it Thursday.
William Logan Jr. pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft and now is serving a 15-day sentence.
In April, the vacuum-bandit case came to a head after Lincoln police released surveillance photos of him in action -- taken from a March 4 laundry room theft -- and got three Crime Stoppers tips pointing to Logan.
The owner of an apartment building near 48th and Holdrege streets installed a camera in the laundry room after noticing someone had been stealing quarters from the machines, according to a police report.
On March 4 at about 3:40 a.m., Logan entered the laundry room. He had a mountain bike in tow and was wearing a blue backpack with a vacuum inside. The video showed him prying open the coin tray, plugging in the vacuum and sucking out change.
Police said Logan no longer had the vacuum when they went to ticket him.
