'Project Runway,' Season 9, Episode 3, 'Go Big or Go Home': TV Recap

It’s an outdoor circus challenge in this week’s Project Runway and who says outdoorsy circus more than Kim Kardashian? Oh Kim, we give you and your crazy family the schmoochies.

But first, let us take a moment to mourn the bon bon that was @CondeElevator, a blind account of all things ridiculous said in the Conde Nast elevators (often on the way up to Vogue.) It seems to have ended, but we hope for more “heli” travel tales and discussions of lettuce.

Back to life on the faux runway. Today’s crazy idea – pair up and design for stilt walkers. Wow, and the designers kvetch about plus-size models? Most of the designers are not thrilled at being paired with each other. There’s a big fashion show outside in front of the press! We are crushed that we were not invited, particularly since Tim Gunn is still not calling us for an interview.

Tim says they should think about Paris couture week while spending $500 and getting it together in a day. Models on stilts = great giant preying mantises.

Bert is uber annoying, spouting off random details about Mae West, Queen Victoria and zzzz, let’s boot his self-satisfied self already. Tim is already fawning over the Anya (I never learned to sew) and Olivier (random accent boy) team. Danielle and Cecilia love the chiffon even though everyone else thinks they’re walking on dangerous ground. Bryce and Fallene aren’t agreeing at all. Fallene can’t seem to cut basics.

The model fittings are hysterical. Daddy longlegs in a matador outfit and Beetlejuice pants and a giant black tutu. It’s Black Swan Cloud. Here is today’s lesson: despite nine seasons of PR, designers still have not learned how to work in pairs because they all think they are special special snowflakes.

Runway time. Michael, Nina, Heidi and Kim are all hanging out in Battery Park, giggling to themselves as models in stilts stomp down the runway. There is no graceful going on here. Check it out here.

They love Anthony and Laura’s flowing red pleated number with a little patterned shrug/collar. Nina says her only worry is that it’s something that she’s seen.

Heidi is a fan of Cecilia and Danielle’s sheer chiffon number. But they all hate the crazy 60s housewife/Jetson do. Kim says she loves the turquoise color. Nina says it’s too quiet. Kors is amazed at their use of chiffon. The long tailored pants with bling bottoms and modern one-shouldered alien top by Kimberly and Becky is a showstopper. Michael says they cut a mean pant but Nina thinks the half-collar is a little circusy.
